Position Summary:
The Controller plays an essential role in managing and streamlining the financial processes of Glenelg Country School. As a key collaborator, the Controller is responsible for preparing financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of past and future income and expenses, in addition to other special reports that may be needed. The Controller supervises vital functions, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, accounting, and audit, ensuring the smooth functioning of the financial processes. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Essential Functions:
Preparing monthly financial statements that include detailed variance analyses to support informed decision-making by senior management.
Reviewing account reconciliations monthly, to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Providing training and support to the accounting department staff to help them develop the skills they need to perform their duties effectively.
Ensuring that all debt service payments and covenant compliance requirements are paid accurately and in a timely manner, to avoid any financial penalties or legal issues.
Assisting the CFO in developing, monitoring, and updating the budgets and forecasts of different departments, in collaboration with other administrators and department heads, to ensure that the organization is on track to meet its financial objectives.
Communicating accounting policies to employees affected by them and ensuring compliance is maintained across the organization.
Lead the preparation of schedules and work papers for the annual audit of the school and its 403b plan, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all documentation.
Manage the preparation of the Form 990, including gathering necessary information, reviewing and analyzing financial data, and ensuring timely submission to relevant authorities.
Establish and maintain a well-organized and easily accessible system of permanent office files for all audit schedules prepared by the school, ensuring compliance with record-keeping standards.
Create and deliver periodic surveys and reports for the school’s trade organizations, such as NAIS, NBOA, AIMS, etc. including analyzing data, identifying trends, and providing recommendations for improvement.
Compile and provide data as requested, ensuring that all information is accurate, relevant, and presented in a clear and concise manner.
Support the Board of Trustees, Head of School, and CFO by completing other miscellaneous tasks as assigned, such as analyzing financial data, developing presentations, and providing other administrative support as needed.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
5 years experience in accounting. Nonprofit experience is a plus.
Active CPA certification preferred.

Ability to analyze complex problems, provide solutions, and develop innovative approaches.
Compensation and Benefits:
This position offers a competitive base salary of $125,000 – $135,000. GCS offers a robust benefits package including health insurances, retirement plan, and generous leave and holidays.
