Episcopal High School seeks an experienced communications professional to complete its four-person communications team, which is part of the School’s Advancement Office, starting on July 1, 2026. Guided by its founding principles of honor, academic distinction, spiritual growth, and community, Episcopal High School is a 100% boarding school located in Alexandria, Va., serving 440+ students in grades 9-12. The Communications Team focuses on highlighting and celebrating the distinctive aspects of Episcopal and the achievements of its students, faculty, staff, and alumni. By fostering strong relationships and school pride, the communications team plays an integral role in engaging all members of the community to actively support the School’s mission and strategic priorities.
The associate director for publications is a full-time, year-round, in-office position reporting to the director of communications. This individual is responsible for planning, writing, and managing strong and engaging content that supports the School’s mission and goals across all forms of print and digital media, with primary responsibility for publication of Episcopal’s award-winning magazines and Annual Report. The successful candidate will be a strong writer and strategic thinker with publications experience and proven success working with various partners to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about joining a highly collaborative team, motivated to do excellent work, and eager to support Episcopal’s mission and community. As a staff position, this role does not qualify for on-campus housing.
Essential duties:
Conceives, writes, edits, and manages work with an outside designer for the production of “EHS: The Magazine of Episcopal High School,” the School’s bi-annual magazine, “Four Columns,” a publication covering spring at The High School, and the School’s Annual Report.
Manages, writes, edits, and produces the monthly in-house alumni and parent digital newsletters, as well as bi-annual community editions, covering stories about life on campus.
Supports the creation of various print materials including fundraising brochures.
Writes and edits copy for print and digital collateral including the School’s website.
Reports the news of the School through feature writing, news stories, and general writing to inform both internal and external audiences.
Supports content development (print and digital) and editing for all-School communications.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, English, communications, or related field.
At least five years of relevant, full-time experience in independent schools, higher education, nonprofits, or a public relations or marketing office.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Proven skills as a writer, editor, and proofreader.
Astute judgement and discretion in handling confidential institutional information.
Expertise managing print and digital projects from conception to completion.
Experience working with commercial printers.
Preferred but not required:
Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Canva.
Experience with web-content management systems.
