ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Provides comprehensive, clinical dental services and preventative dental care to a diverse patient population with a wide range of dental conditions.
Oversees dental students as an Adjunct Faculty Member of a School of Dentistry.
Examines patients, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others including dental and dental hygiene and dental assisting students in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s electronic medical record so that the record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. In addition, the Dentist shall complete referrals, data collections instruments and other records or paperwork as shall be required from time to time by the corporation.
Educates patients in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
Serves on committees as assigned.
Prepares specific reports as requested.
Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of Dental Clinic staff and Dental Students as requested.
Assists in the design, development and implementation of appropriate Dental Department policies, protocols and procedures as directed by the Executive Director, which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards.
Assists in the provision of technical assistance and dental health education to the community as requested.
Participates in short- and long-term program planning for the Dental Clinic and the agency, including development of goals and objectives.
Provides consultation to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues as needed.
Travels when necessary to fulfill needs and attends meetings as necessary to represent the Dental Clinic. Expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with policy.
Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.
Participates in recruitment/retention activities of the corporation as necessary.
As directed by the Executive Director, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and program goals and objectives.
Consults and works collaboratively with Physicians, staff behavioral health specialists and other medical professionals. Confers with specialists and/or consultants regarding the care of patients, as well as medical and diagnostic work performed, and coordinates the work with the patient care team. Records findings and formulates a comprehensive patient care plan and prognosis, based on patient’s condition and other related factors. Prescribes medications or other forms of treatment, as necessary.
Maintains required dental records and other documents in a complete, accurate and timely manner via the organization’s Electronic Medical Record (“EMR”)
Participates in quality assurance initiatives and provides input on the development of policies and procedures that impact the dental health delivery service.
Participates in training relevant to the education of professional dental personnel as well as any training required by the Coalition.
Provides exemplary customer service and represents the Coalition in a professional manner.
Maintains the security and privacy of all protected health information.
On average, achieves and maintains a minimum patient visitation rate of 97% as relates to established visitation goals.
On average, achieves and maintains a patient duration of visit/cycle time of sixty-minutes or less.
Consistently returns telephone calls, resolves and/or addresses EMR “bubbles” and other communications to patients and other staff and treatment team members and/or stakeholders within 48 hours.
Participates in and/or supports organizational efforts to solicit unduplicated patients.
Other duties as may be assigned from time-to-time by your supervisor that are consistent with Mission of the organization and intent of this position.
Minimum Required Education, Experience, Abilities & Characteristics: Graduate from an accredited Dental School Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges required. Preferred bilingual in English/Spanish. Relates well to people of various social-economic backgrounds. Proficient with dental and electronic medical records software programs. Evidence of involvement and willingness to participate in community leadership activities. A passion and concern for the target population served by the health center.
Licensure and Credentials: Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the state of Virginia. Current CPR (BLS) Certification, ACLS preferred. DEA registrations. Medicaid provider numbers.

Various personal protective equipment associated with the disease control and prevention and generally found and/or employed in the health care industry may/will be required.
