Cape Henry seeks an experienced fundraiser with a gift for fostering relationships as its next Director of Development, starting in the summer of 2024. We seek a professional who genuinely enjoys meeting others and learning about their lives and families. The Director of Development will join a committed Advancement Team and will oversee the Cape Henry Fund (Annual Fund). Genuine interest in and enthusiasm for building meaningful relationships with individuals for purposes of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of gifts.
Positive leadership and supervisory skills based on a position of mutual respect.
Experience with management of fundraising platforms such as GiveCampus and Raiser’s Edge.
Strong organizational and analytical skills, along with an attention to detail.
Strategic thinking skills and an understanding of the full scope of an annual fund campaign while seeing individual tasks through to completion.
The ability to communicate with clarity across a wide range of audiences.
The Director of Development will...
Lead the work to fundraise for the Cape Henry Annual Fund and ambitiously increase this Fund each year through community education, broadening participation, and facilitating upward movement through the giving levels.
Establish personal and meaningful relationships with current and potential donors.
Collaborate with the Head of School on stewarding significant gifts.
Manage a portfolio of prospects, including alumni, parents, past parents, and grandparents, with a focus on securing leadership-level gifts.
Develop a coordinated solicitation strategy involving personal visits, email, and direct mail, all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of support.
Develop highly effective and sustainable volunteer components within annual giving.
Supervise the Development Assistant, Events Manager, and Director of Alumni Relations.
Maintain the Raiser’s Edge database.
Lead the Board of Trustees’ Development Committee meetings.
Participate in evening and weekend activities, including the Grand Auction, Homecoming, receptions, special events, and travel as needed.
Maintain high visibility in the community, attending a variety of student, parent, admissions, and alumni events.
Perform other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree is required, and preferably no fewer than five years of successful
fundraising experience in an independent school setting (preferred) or other nonprofit.
