What do we do for our team?
We are fully remote with employees in the Washington, DC, Viriginia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Nova Scotia, Canada. You don’t need to be located in any of these locations, but you do need to be able to work a mainly east coast schedule. Employees are provided a laptop computer to use for work-related activities.

DiscoverE (DiscoverEngineering.org) is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented person, with association/ non-profit experience and excellent volunteer management skills interested in using and growing their talents to inspire the next generation of engineers. What will you do?
Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of DiscoverE’s Future City Middle School Competition program. Collaborate with the Director of Programs and the Program Manager, Future City High School to develop strategies to grow Future City, as well as work with the DE team to expand and cross-market our other programs. In this role you will work closely with the DiscoverE’s Program Associate, Director of Programs and Program Manager, Future City High School and Program Manager (all other DE programs). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Program
Manage all volunteer region and regional coordinator needs- including training, recruiting, onboarding, monthly calls (build out agendas and schedules) and creation of support materials
Assist the Director of Programs to develop and run the Annual Regional Coordinator Retreat
Serve as project lead for annual Future City Handbook update
Serve as primary support for Regions, working closely with the Program Associate to support Regional Coordinators and Educators during competition time
Create and maintain the Program Procedures Manual (internal use)
Develop and execute a metrics plan to track Future City Regional growth
Collaborate with Marketing Manager to create Future City communications calendars and copy for all participating audiences - including but not limited to Regions, Program Leaders, Educators, and prospect volunteer pools
Maintain and manage the Future City online Competition Management System (CMS) – including resource and program updates, platform instruction manual, reports, etc.
Manage the Future City training program- maintains meeting schedules and agendas, develops resources and progress reports
Develops program plan and manual to execute this program and its resources moving beyond year one
Works with Program Associate to maintain Salesforce Database
Analyze metrics and generate programmatic reports for DiscoverE
Represents DiscoverE with events and promotions (virtual and in person) throughout the year
Manages Futurecity.org website- including maintaining site schedule for updating content
Annual International Competition – (Presidents Day week in February each year)
Assist Director with onsite event logistics, including working with vendor partners on planning aspects of the competition
Onsite judges and volunteer primary contact – manages schedules and trainings
Manage Onsite Program development, project management from print to delivery
Serve as an ambassador for Future City and DiscoverE and build rapport with program participants and stakeholders, including educators, parents, volunteers, and funders
Provide excellent customer service
Other duties as assigned.
What else could we possibly need from you? 3-6 years association/ non-profit program or event experience
Proven ability, willingness, and desire to represent DiscoverE to a variety of audiences with effective written and verbal English skills. Spanish skills are a plus but not required.
Volunteer Management Experience (Association experience a plus)
Database experience (Salesforce experience a plus)
Strong customer service skills, including experience working with volunteers, customers and vendors.
Detail oriented with multi-tasking skills to meet deadlines and comfortable with managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to thrive in both self-directed and team-focused work while handling multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience and comfort with MS Office, WordPress, and general computer technology.
Occasional travel and the willingness to work weekends during specific events. (Anticipated travel includes the five-day Finals event in Washington, DC in February; Saturday-Wednesday, including Presidents Day) and a three-day Regional Coordinator retreat (Friday-Sunday, location TBD) in the springtime, as well as occasional short trips (1-2 days) for organizational meetings in the DC area. Remote weekend work anticipated on Saturdays in January while Regional Competitions are taking place.
Educational background and/or equivalent work experience that provides the necessary skillset to fulfill job responsibilities.
