The Johns Hopkins University invites applications for Associate Program Director, Nonprofit Management in the Advanced Academic Programs' (AAP) Center for Data Analytics, Policy, and Government, a division of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. The Associate Program Director will report to the Director of the Public Management Program. The Center seeks to hire an innovative and forward-thinking individual to manage the online MA in Nonprofit Management program. This faculty member will also work collaboratively with other Center faculty to set goals and direction in its pursuit of teaching excellence. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 12-month renewable faculty position with the academic title of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.
Advanced Academic Programs
AAP offers rigorous and high-quality master's degrees and certificates in three locations: the Washington, DC Center, the Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD, and online. AAP enrolls almost 6,000 students each academic year in over 45 programs and distinguishes itself through its intensive instructional assistance, selective admissions, and over 60 dedicated full-time faculty. Tenured Krieger School faculty members serve as Program Chairs and oversee the academic rigor of AAP programs and courses. AAP's website, http://advanced.jhu.edu/, provides additional information.
Academic Responsibilities
- Teach 4 graduate courses per year, including preparation and time spent in the classroom (online), using best practices for teaching, engaging, and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds in the learning process, and responding to student questions
- Advise students, including both program and research/capstone advising
- Provide innovative leadership for curriculum design and new course development to ensure the delivery and growth of a quality program
- Other academic duties normally performed by full-time faculty, such as participating on committees, attending academic events, or contributing to other academic service
Administrative Responsibilities
- Work with the Program Director and Center Director to hire, mentor, and evaluate adjunct faculty
- Oversee the program's admissions process, including reviewing and approving prospective students' admissions materials
- Provide overall supervision for the Nonprofit Management program
- Schedule courses and set teaching assignments throughout the year
- Host events for current and prospective students
Qualifications
The Associate Program Director's role is critical to maintaining the overall high quality of this program. The Associate Program Director must have a passion for education and its power to change lives, especially for part-time and non-residential students. A track record of building and managing successful onsite and online education programs, and skills in instructional design, content development, and instructional technologies, are important. Candidates who have experience teaching and engaging students from diverse backgrounds are of particular interest.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Nonprofit Management, Management, Administration, or a related field
- One to three years of higher education teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level
- One to three years of experience at the Assistant Director level, or equivalent administrative experience
- Ability to teach a variety of courses in the nonprofit management field
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four or more years of higher education teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level
- Professional work experience in the nonprofit management field
- Demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum design
- The ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and multiple deadlines
- Experience managing a degree or certificate program
