Position Summary
The Patient Services Director serves as the Foundation’s medical liaison with the mesothelioma expert community and mesothelioma centers, coordinates services for patients, their families, and caregivers (diagnosis, treatment options including clinical trials, side effect management). The Patient Services Director reports to the Executive Director and serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Directors.
The Patient Services Director has primary responsibility for:
Building, maintaining, and expanding a robust and well-vetted network of mesothelioma experts and their respective institutions.
Maintaining continued competency in mesothelioma by reviewing the latest treatments, clinical trials, and new innovations.
Preparing summaries/briefings for distribution to the medical and patient community working collaboratively with a member of the Foundation board as a rotating medical advisor to ensure that all information is accurate.
Working with patients, family members, and caregivers as they navigate their mesothelioma journey including reviewing individual cases, providing scientifically accurate, evidence-based information including referral to available mesothelioma experts, treatment options, and clinical trials.
Staffing the Science Advisory Board and representing the Foundation on mesothelioma treatment panels with ASCO, NCCN, and others.
Directing the educational content for the International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma, MesoTV, and other programming.have experience in
Qualifications (Experience and Education)
At a minimum, candidates must have a BSN with at least 5 years of experience in medical oncology and/or thoracic surgery. Preferred candidates will have experience in mesothelioma patient care and with clinical trials, an ONS certification, and an MSN.
Applicants should have a strong interest in working virtually with a small team of nonprofit professionals, have experience in navigating difficult topics with clarity and accuracy, and have the ability to develop relationships with patients, healthcare providers, and other partners.
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is the only nonprofit charity organization dedicated to ending mesothelioma, and the suffering caused by this cancer, by funding research to improve treatment options, providing treatment support and education for patients and their families, and advocating for federal funding of research.
