GRADE: Annual Salary is $59,367

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:

PURPOSE:
To represent and assist the International Union in empowering non-union workers to join unions; to assist SEIU Locals in new union organizing; and to carry out organizing and other projects on behalf of SEIU members. The Organizer's role is to organize new workers into the Union and support the organizing goals of SEIU. The Organizer will support organizing strategies that will allow new workers to join SEIU. The Organizer will work on implementation of strategies as part of a campaign plan as directed by the campaign director or a designee.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.) Perform a wide range of duties as assigned by the International Union, including, but not limited to the following:
Assist and support the execution of organizing strategies to help workers build power and win union recognition in unorganized workplaces through leadership identification and development, building organizing committees, and preparing workers for NLRB and other elections, and/or strategic recognition campaigns
Communicate with workers including listening, framing issues, and motivating them to actively participate
Represent the Union as assigned in community and labor coalition activities
Conducting broad and intensive outreach efforts to non-union workers at their homes, worksites, and other settings
Engaging, motivating, and mobilizing workers to take action
Identifying, recruiting, and developing worker leaders
Work closely with member organizers including assisting in training and developing their organizing skills
Build and develop organizing committees on active new organizing campaigns
Conducting individual and group meetings with workers to move organizing campaigns forward
Planning and carrying out actions and events to support worker organizing efforts
Utilizing digital, communication, data, and work planning tools to execute relevant campaign strategies and plans
Job Requirements
Required to work long and varying hours including weekends, nights and holidays
Requires independent judgment and self-motivation
Travel in addition to long and extended work hours may be required

DIRECTION & DECISION MAKING:
The position reports to the National Organizing Department and works at the discretion of campaign leadership.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Applicants must have a minimum of 9 months of external union organizing experience with a proven ability to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the job

Demonstrated commitment to workers' rights and social justice
Effective demonstrable oral, written, and listening skills in English
Effective analytical and judgment skills as demonstrated by the ability to analyze and assess data and information, and act strategically based on the analysis

Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license, proof of auto insurance and an automobile for business use
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to work in an office and or field setting with or without reasonable accommodation. Travel in addition to long and extended work hours are required.
Probationary Period:
Twelve Months
