FCS seeks a part-time Director of Communications who is responsible for ensuring that all school communications are clear, effective, and consistent with Friends Community School’s Quaker identity and values. The Director of Communication is the School’s storyteller and webmaster, who works to develop and implement a communications plan that promotes enrollment and fundraising and establishes a consistent message about the school.
The Director of Communications works closely with the Head of School, the Director of Admissions, the Director of Development, the Director of Information Technology, division heads, and the Parent Association. Reporting directly to the Director of Advancement, the Director of Communications is a member of the senior administrative team.
Responsibilities include:
Shaping the strategic direction of the FCS website and regularly updating the FCS website with information, photos, and video.
In collaboration with Director of IT and division heads, optimize Blackbaud's communication tools for faculty and parents, and help direct training, maintenance, and quality control.
Strategically creating annual communications plan (concept, design, content, editorial, and production for print and digital communications), in collaboration with admissions and advancement, that targets key constituencies and promotes the School’s mission and identity.
Monitoring evolving and effective methods of communication and maintaining a communication calendar which tracks frequency, senders, and receivers of FCS communications.
Creating and overseeing the production of the FCS Weekly Bulletin.
Assisting the Head of School and other administrators with sensitive and weighty communications.
Developing and managing an integrated online presence on social media platforms. Analyze and report on social media metrics.
Overseeing the production of school publications and policy handbooks.
Collaborate with admissions office to develop a strategic digital and print advertising plan.
In the coming months it is anticipated that the Director of Communications will collaborate with leadership on a comprehensive rebrand for the school.
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or marketing
Four years or more experience in marketing and communications with independent schools or nonprofit organizations
Outstanding organizational and presentation skills
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Proven ability to effectively lead, manage, and inspire a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment with multiple creative projects
Creative and artistic vision and direction
Experience in desktop publishing design and management of design production
Demonstrated experience with photography, videography, website content management and design, and social media marketing
Demonstrated success as a confident problem solver
Proven track record as an independent and goal-oriented manager with a dedication to meeting deadlines
