Job Overview
The Advancement Office of the Law Center is charged with raising funds to advance the institution' s mission and achieve goals set forth by the Executive Vice President of the Law Center/Dean of the Law School and the Assistant Dean of Development & Alumni Affairs . Corporate and Foundation fundraising objectives of the Law Center and the University include increasing outreach to new corporations and foundations, while retaining relationships with those who are already making charitable gifts to the institution, and increasing the total dollars raised.
Working closely with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Assistant Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations plays an essential role on the Law major gifts and corporate and foundation fund-raising team. They carry out in-depth research and prospect analysis for corporate and foundation fund raising; and assist in the development of corporate and foundation funding proposals.
They recognize that they make an impression on those seeking contact with the Development Office (alumni, donors, Law Center faculty, staff, administrators) and that the service provided to those individuals affects the reputation of the office and the successful completion of department goals. As well, they keep confidential the sensitive donor, alumni, project, and budget information.
Work Interactions
The Assistant Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations reports to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, and will work closely with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to provide writing, research, and project support to the DCFR and other senior Development staff members.
The Assistant Director will interact with Law Center faculty and senior administration on submissions, proposals and research, and will interact with other units of the Law Advancement office.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
3 to 5 years of corporate and foundation prospect research and proposal writing experience Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong computer skills, including all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Analytical and organizational skills, flexibility, and commitment to confidentiality
Ability to use good judgment and ethics in handling confidential materials with sensitivity and discretion
Proven track record of successful fundraising in the $500,000+ annually
Ability to work with many different constituencies, as well as the ability to balance multiple projects and stakeholders
Curiosity, an interest in continual learning, and the ability to make mental connections
Excellent critical thinking and good judgment
An interest in Law Center programs, foundations and philanthropy, and the roles of nonprofits and higher education in addressing broad social issues
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat applications
Capacity to gain proficiency in Portfolio & Relationship Management application and Gambit database for adherence to prospect management system
Preferred qualification
Experience with project budgets
Experience in higher education, especially those with an understanding of the purpose an understanding of the Law Center and Georgetown University
