The Associate Campus Minister at Connelly School of the Holy Child is responsible for spiritual support and programming as well as community service for young women in grades 6-12, in the Catholic tradition. This new position reports to and collaborates with the Head of Mission and Ministry, and works collaboratively with the Student Life and Religion Departments.
This role is key to the mission of Holy Child and the Network of Schools across the United States, with the goal to “foster a faith commitment that engenders a joyous personal relationship with God in addressing the challenges of the world”.
The primary responsibilities include
- Promoting the spiritual growth of students through prayer and sacramental life, school prayer services, retreats,
- Directing the comprehensive Christian service program and encouraging students towards the vision of becoming women of Cornelia Connelly’s Actions Not Words.
Responsibilities Include:
- Plans and leads spiritual retreats for each grade level, with lead responsibility for middle school retreats and 10th grade retreat. Provides support in planning of Freshman Retreat, Junior Kairos and Senior Retreats in partnership with Head of Mission and Ministry. With coaching, will lead Kairos retreat in year 2.
- Maintains relationships with retreat centers and coordinates logistics of transportation, meals, permission forms, supplies, and retreat accommodations.
- Maintains relationships with priests to support the sacramental life of the community, primarily for Mass and Reconciliation.
- Plans for weekly student-led prayer services for whole school community, as well as for middle school and upper school divisions.
- Recruits student leaders, facilitates collaborative work meetings, and implements student-led grade level Chapel times for middle school and upper school grades.
Creates and fosters leadership opportunities for students including liturgical and retreat ministries. - Works with Head of Mission and Ministry and Visual and Performing Arts Departments on schoolwide special prayer services including Advent Lessons and Carols, Epiphany Tableau, Living Stations of the Cross, and May Crowning.
- Implements the school’s comprehensive Christian Service program including grade-level service requirements across all grades.
- Supports students seeking to find service opportunities that match individual interests and passions.
- Facilitates a Middle School elective course, “Charity in Action”, promoting service learning, exploration, and reflection.
- Serves as the moderator for Holy Child’s Best Buddies Club, leading all elements of this partnership with Best Buddies of Maryland and Potomac Community Resources including communications, student leadership development, facilitating training and event planning and logistics.
- Serves as Office representative to Religion Department for monthly meetings.
- Reports to and collaborates with the Head of Mission and Campus Ministry for the responsibilities described here, as well as to support other community efforts as needed, including in the areas of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
Additional Requirements:
Some night and weekend work is expected including facilitating overnight retreats on- and off-campus, and several Sunday Masses each year. Must also be available to facilitate day-long and overnight Christian service opportunities. This individual is also required to drive the school van with students and/or packages and materials.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- B.A./B.S. required; Masters degree preferred.
- Practicing Roman Catholic with experience working in diocesan, parish, nonprofit, or school-based ministry.
- A deep understanding of and appreciation for Catholic faith and practice as well as the mission of Catholic Education, with the ability to communicate that understanding and appreciation to diverse stakeholder groups, including those from other faith traditions.
- Successful candidates should have experience in the field of Catholic ministry, preferably working with students or youth, and a desire to support students’ spiritual journey.
- Experience in service learning, along with energy, enthusiasm, and deep commitment to Gospel values.
- Willingness and time to lead and chaperone diverse local, national, and international service experiences for students.
- Commitment to a collaborative leadership and supervisory style.
- Ability to manage concurrent projects and variety of student programming in a dynamic environment.
- Ministerial and pastoral qualities in relating to the spiritual needs of students.
- Capacity for handling confidential information with tact and discretion.
- Organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage projects and events.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
