The Director, Research reports to the CEO, works closely with the VP, Communications and is responsible for leading the association’s research and benchmarking projects, including those in partnership with other associations and industry colleagues.
Serves as Staff Liaison for IA’s Research & Benchmarking Committee
Oversees development of IA’s research agendas and work plans, working in conjunction with the CEO and Benchmarking Committee.
Develops and maintains systems to support research coordination and goals. Manages the research process and keeps products on track for release dates determined in partnership with IA leadership.
Fully manages research projects, including member communications, data collection and timelines, as well as conducting basic analytic and quality data exercises.
Reviews and edits all reports and fact sheets produced, as well as other materials such as blogs, testimony and talking points as needed.
Ensures that data is collected, processed, and reported in a way that centers equity and maintains the highest level of accuracy and integrity, and findings conform to IA standards for qualitative and quantitative research, asking for changes or additional documentation from policy staff when needed.
Manage the creation, maintenance, and accessibility of data reports and dashboards.
Lead and coordinate external partnerships, ensuring projects are completed to set time, budget, and quality standards.
5+ years of experience in Market Research execution and leadership
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
Proven ability in using data to inform strategic decision-making and priority-setting
Excellent skills in data languages and software
Experience centering diversity, equity and inclusion in data analysis
Experience in data visualization, dashboards, presentations, and translating complex concepts for diverse audiences
Experience in statistical analysis, including having conducted research studies
A deep familiarity with the Insights profession and membership
Experience in education, nonprofits, and/or with high-need communities, preferred
Strong quantitative analysis skills and experience using quantitative analysis software, including experience with market sizing and B2B research
Demonstrated success in creating evaluation and research plans, including developing indicators and metrics for success
Demonstrated success in designing data collection tools and conducting data collection activities (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups) Self-motivated, tenacious problem solver with an ability to both follow directions and work without supervision
Strong project management skills and the ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work against tight deadlines
Ability to work well with all levels of staff, members and on occasion, the media
