The Chief Medical Officer, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital reports to the President of the Hospital with a dotted line to the Chief, Clinical Enterprise, Inova Health System. The primary function of the hospital care site Chief Medical Officer ("CMO") is to lead Inova’s culture of safety, quality and experience. While this responsibility is shared among all leaders and team members, the CMO is primarily responsible for all duties and activities that lead to positive outcomes for our patients. The CMO will be an integral member of the executive leadership team of the care site and will act as the primary liaison with the medical staff. The CMO is also a member of the Administrative Council and partners with the Hospital President and Chief Nursing Officer ("CNO") to work as a Triad. The Triad will work collaboratively in order to provide strategic guidance and leadership for the development and implementation of strategies throughout the care site.
Accountable for balanced scorecard results surrounding safety, quality, patient and team experience.
Leads and models the behaviors congruent with the culture of High Reliability, Just Culture, Zero Harm, etc.
Collaborates and coordinates the critical intersection of system teams including: service lines, quality, safety and patient experience, clinical effectiveness, infection prevention. The CMO will oversee and lead these teams locally in conjunction with their system leaders.
Oversees preparation and conduct of Quality Committee meetings for care site, co-leads with committee chair.
Coordinates and partners with medical staff leaders as representative of Inova and non-voting member of MEC.
Is the primary liaison between medical staff and Inova Health System. Duties include peer review, service line collaboration, credentialing, OPPE, FPPE, and alignment of business and clinical objectives of Inova.
Oversees utilization and associated operations, review, resource use, LOS etc.
Acts as key contact point for contracted care services with physicians and physician groups in coordination with service line leaders.
Communicates system goals and strategic priorities and aligns operations of the care site’s patient experience departments accordingly.
Oversees budgeting and manages overall performance for department(s) and employee(s) within scope of role in alignment with care site goals
Works collaboratively with care site leaders to identify, plan and implement new programs to achieve service and satisfaction goals
Leads, manages and facilitates cross-functional team which may include Steering Committees and/or Councils specific to the care site’s specific programs
Performs other duties as assigned and mutually agreed upon at the system and care site (which may vary by care site location)
The CMO is expected to demonstrate concepts of performance excellence clinically and administratively, perpetuating the culture and standard of care that influences the care site’s clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, physician engagement and retention through collaboration with leaders, providers, nurses, and ancillary and support staff.
