The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists serves as its leader, representative, and spokesperson. The CEO leads the National Register in fulfilling its mission to credential health service psychologists, executing the National Register’s strategic plan and positioning the organization programmatically as the professional home for health service psychologists. In addition, the CEO promotes credentialed health service psychologists to consumers, provides distinction and value to health service psychologists, guides psychology students and early career psychologists (ECPs) toward credentialing, enhances health service psychologists’ contributions to integrated healthcare, and identifies qualified health service psychologists in the global community. The CEO represents and supports the 15,000 credentialed Health Service Psychologists and Associate members of the organization and reports to the NR’s Board of Directors.
The CEO is a visionary who embraces change, understands and seeks out new technologies, communicates with different audiences, and understands the political and economic dimensions of the healthcare industry. The successful applicant will have a history of working with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to improving inclusivity in the field.
The CEO oversees management of the organization, including administration, finances, and personnel. The CEO serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Association’s peer-reviewed journal, the Journal of Health Service Psychology, and oversees all other publications of the Association. The position requires someone who likes to solve problems, implement solutions, work with decision-makers, build coalitions, and nurture and leverage a growing network of strategic partnerships.
The successful applicant will initially serve as the organization’s Director of Strategic Partnerships. The Director of Strategic Partnerships will act as the organization’s chief strategist and will be responsible for leading and managing the daily work of the organization and the internal management of several core operations as the organization. The intent is for the candidate to work in this role and then transition to CEO within six months.
We seek candidates with experience in several of the following areas: academic and training environments, licensure and credentialing activities, management of professional and consumer constituencies, provision of behavioral healthcare services, and development of continuing education workshops/materials. Applicants should have a history of working with diverse populations, industries, and situations with a demonstrated commitment to actively improving inclusivity in the field of psychology. Applicants should demonstrate a history of public speaking, a history of editorial work and strong writing skills, and a record of peer-reviewed publications. In addition, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in electronic communication and websites/social media, robust leadership skills, and a commitment to ethics and public service. The successful candidate will be familiar with the key players and on-going initiatives among professional psychological associations and have a track record of creating and managing programmatic offerings effectively, including expertise in internal program management, strategic planning, leadership of staff, as well as collaboration with a board of directors and other organizational advisors. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, flexibility, ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and appreciation for how to bring various perspectives together to solve complex problems that affect the communities we serve. The position does not require extensive fundraising experience, however some background in philanthropic giving and development is preferred.
Other qualifications will be considered, such as experience with professional membership/credentialing organizations at the state and national level, executive management with a governing board in a nonprofit environment, and experience with the financial management of a membership-based organization.
Applicants should currently hold an active, unrestricted license as a psychologist and must be the graduate of a doctoral program accredited by the American Psychological Association, the Canadian Psychological Association, or designated by the NR/ASPPB Joint Designation Project. Applicants with international doctoral degrees will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Applicants should be current holders of the National Register’s Health Service Psychologist credential or eligible for same.
The position is open until filled. Anticipated start date is July 2022 for the position of Director of Strategic Partnerships role.
The position is in-office at the headquarters of the National Register in Washington, DC. Moderate to extensive travel may be required. Salary is highly competitive and based on prior experience. An excellent health and retirement benefit package is provided.
