The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, the Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. CCSSO seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
The Project Manager will support the Senior Project Manager in ensuring the success of CCSSO’s role in the Coalition to Advance Future Student Success. The challenges of the global health crisis over the past year laid bare the need for fundamental changes in K-12 education. The unprecedented injection of federal emergency relief funds presents an opportunity to transform the U.S. school system. To chart a path forward, CCSSO helped launched the Coalition to Advance Future Student Success, bringing together 12 leading education organizations that represent leaders from practitioners in the classroom to the state capitol working together to ensure this moment of transformation brings about greater equity and outcomes for students in the U.S. CCSSO seeks an individual with experience in project management and the skill set necessary to communicate, schedule, budget, and ensure tasks are completed on time across multiple organizations and internal teams.
The Project Manager will specifically be responsible for developing common data points or metrics to ensure the success of the Coalition and tracking against those measurable outcomes. Job responsibilities will include:
Collaborating with the senior project manager, project manager (communications), internal staff, and external organizations to develop common measures of success and developing processes to track progress over time.
Conduct frequent analyses of the work of and/or resources produced by Coalition organizations (landscape analyses) aligned with the Coalition’s agreed upon 10-point framework and determine where to house these resources to easily share among Coalition organizations.
Schedule, host and facilitate project meetings with internal CCSSO teams and/or with external stakeholders supporting the work of the Coalition.
Organize, review, and produce agendas and meeting materials for Coalition meetings and related advisory group meetings.
Provide frequent project updates verbally and in writing to ensure collaboration, coordination, and communication.
Meet deadlines and deliver on other assigned tasks and outcomes aligned with the success of the Coalition for Future Student Success.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of five (5) years’ work experience.
PMP certification preferred
Experience working in a remote environment preferred.
Experience in planning projects with large data sets and making decisions for data-driven analytics.
Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate ideas.
Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects and priorities.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and have created or used charts, spreadsheets, and databases. The individual must have experience with project management platforms, such as Asana or similar. Successful incumbents are proficient at using Zoom, Outlook, and Intranet/Internet tools.

This position is funded for three years through a grant from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2024.
