Works with a network of member companies, government agencies, the White House, Congress, industry coalitions and nonprofit groups in advancing the NAM agenda. Manages and coordinates internal policy committees and task forces to formulate the association's positions and policies on innovation, technology and immigration policy issues. Leads and participates in external coalitions, coordinates industry advocacy and thought leadership efforts with internal field and public affairs staff. Communicates the association's agenda in public forums and speaking engagements and responds to inquiries from association members, media and policymakers to support the NAM agenda.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Develop and implement lobbying strategies to advance the NAM's agenda. Monitor and analyze legislative, executive and judicial branch activities. Perform lobbying functions, including but not limited to, the following: drafting issue briefs, white papers, regulatory comments and lobbying points on important issues to the department; draft letters to members of Congress, Administration officials as well as prepare Congressional testimony promoting NAM positions; organize joint lobbying visits and maintain relationships with congressional and agency staff; work with coalitions, other trade associations and allies to broaden and enhance the NAM's message. Maintain high visibility on Capitol Hill and in the Administration on priority issues. Specific issues areas to be lobbied may include intellectual property protection, telecommunications and other FCC matters, broadband infrastructure, data privacy, cybersecurity, automation, 5G, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies as well as immigration policy.
Own and manage a complex portfolio of policy issues while demonstrating leadership and an entrepreneurial attitude to take on new opportunities and challenges that confront the association and its members.
Write and edit regular communications to member companies, policy committees, coalition members, and staff on important legislative, executive branch and internal department activities.
Plan and coordinate the work of NAM participation on various coalitions that support NAM member priorities. Develop strategic objectives and benchmarks to manage both internal and external assets so that value is derived from these efforts.
Manage and grow relationships by communicating regularly with policy committee and task force chairs and NAM members on key issues. Support the field and other staff in membership activities.
Plan and coordinate external events, Hill briefings, committee and task force meetings, coalition activities, advocacy campaigns and meetings on key issues and projects.
Prepare and file regulatory comments, prepare and deliver testimony at public hearings, and present NAM positions at briefings and other events.
Engage member companies and be responsive to their requests and professional in all interactions. Assist with member recruitment and retention. Respond to legislative and/or regulatory opportunities that address leading NAM policy priorities and ensure NAM policy is current and relevant.

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, J.D. strongly preferred;
Approximately three to five years of related association, law firm, corporation or executive branch and/or Hill experience;
An in-depth understanding of the various innovation, technology and immigration policy challenges facing U.S. manufacturers;
Thorough knowledge of the public policy process; excellent communication (verbal and written) skills; strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
Previous background in cybersecurity, technology, immigration or regulatory policy is helpful, as is general knowledge of patent and intellectually property issues;
Experience handling media inquiries is helpful; and
Ability to succeed in a fast paced, quality driven work environment.
