We are seeking a Curriculum Specialist (Physics)who will work under the support and supervision of CTY Online Programs staff and will develop online curricula for a problem-solving course in physics. The curricula strive to develop serious problem-solving skills among aspiring scientists and engineers by giving them a chance to see the world through the 'quantitative' eyes of a physicist. Students will apply these skills to analyze various physical processes and phenomena taken from the world of sports, dance, music, and visual arts. They must comprehend, analyze, evaluate and create new ideas and new explanations using mathematics.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Produce detailed curriculum materials for a problem-solving course in physics.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the job include:
Produce curriculum materials for an online course with asynchronous and synchronous components for academically talented students.
Course is to be deployed in a learning management system, Moodle, and the course will be taught using Moodle and tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Office 365.
Scope of work for both synchronous and asynchronous courses includes all necessary lessons, activities, assessments, and instructional notes (with complete bibliographic information) that an instructor would need to teach the course.
Specific instructions for synchronous group work, materials needed, how to set up the activities, course objectives, length of time needed for activities, etc.
Evaluate best resources and vendors to present material online to gifted students.
Update the course to meet Quality Matters and WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards.
To accomplish this scope, you will:
Collaborate with curricular project team members
Design engaging and innovative lessons that leverage technology, research-based strategies, and best practices for online instruction
Working with our Instructional Designer's guidance, modify and/or create lessons that follow established CTYstandards and norms, adhering to curriculum formats (i.e. lesson template, structure, and assessments), and that are consistent and coherent with those being developed across the department
Using Universal Design for Learning principles, build scaffolds/accommodations/accessibility to meet the needs of all learners, including students with special needs
Work with CTY staff to ensure accurate and developmentally appropriate content
Embrace and exemplify an academic mindset that values drafting, development, review, and revision
Complete the appropriate scope and sequence of work within the timeline required at each phase, adhering to a task- and deadline-driven workflow

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Physics or Engineering, or related field is required; Additional (graduate) education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.
Minimum of one year of teaching experience in an educational setting, with experience teaching high school physics.
Experience in writing curriculum and instruction, preferably in the area of gifted education.
Masters in Physics or Engineering with AP Physics teaching experience, or PhD in Physics with Algebra based college physics teaching experience.
Knowledge of pedagogy appropriate for gifted students.
3–5 years of high school teaching experience, preferably online.
Experience working in the area of gifted education, preferably teaching in the course content area.
Experience writing curriculum that has been used in an online or offline environment, preferably in the content area.
Knowledge of current technology, curriculum instruction, and assessment practices.
Knowledge of online educational tools for mathematics and physics.
Experience with self-directed, deadline driven work.
Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
Effective communication skills, written and verbal.
Ability to give and receive clear and specific feedback.
Experience with web-based course management tools (especially Moodle).
Experience with Microsoft Office 365 apps and Teams.
Experience on Mac and PC platforms.
Knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies.
Experience with some sort of programming, markup, or typesetting language.
Internal and External Contacts:
Contact with the primary department and other CTY Academic departments as needed.
Work with other curricular project team members, including contract curriculum specialists and instructional designers.
Required Special Skills and Knowledge:

Strong pedagogical and content knowledge.
Strong organization skills.
Ability to access and transmit information using a computer.
Dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse pad and other office machinery.
