The Center for Social Concern (CSC) fosters a life-long commitment to active citizenship through education, action, and reflection. Working toward this mission, the CSC strives to support students on the Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins University through engagement opportunities with the Baltimore community. The Communications Specialist is a vital position within the Center, to ensure our many constituents: students, community agencies, university partners, community members, and local and national community engaged professionals, have connections to and partnerships with the CSC.
The Communications Specialist reports directly to an Associate Director in the CSC. While the bulk of the responsibilities focus on the CSC, this position will also have a reporting line into the Student Affairs communications team and will contribute to divisional projects and initiatives.
Supporting diverse programs and projects, this position will require creative thinking and strong attention to detail.

Communications and Marketing:
Lead and implement a branding strategy for the Center, which is aligned with the broader Student Affairs and University branding and imaging
Develop and implement a comprehensive integrated marketing and communications plan, aligned with Student Affairs and University-wide efforts, that focuses on promoting the mission, goals and brand of the Center to a variety of constituents, including students, community partners, staff, faculty, and alumniOversee all aspects of marketing, including research, design, and implementation of new and existing web and print publications, consistent with Student Affairs and University branding and other guidelines
Create and manage website content - coordinating with the Student Affairs web team and CSC staff
Manage social media accounts and maintain an office-wide social media calendar
Work with CSC staff to identify students and community partners to be featured in spotlight stories on social media and other marketing platforms that help tell the CSC story
Manage Center's e-marketing systems, Constant Contact and Campus Groups, for distributing monthly electronic newsletters, updates, and communications
Work closely with CSC staff members to implement marketing initiatives to specific target audiences to increase participation in the Center's programs
Create and distribute semester reports as needed to university stakeholders providing updates on the Center, including assessment-related data
Provide presentations and information sessions to students, parents, alumni, staff, faculty, and partners
Responsible for working alongside the integrated CSC teams to plan and implement student training, organizational support, and evaluations
Participate as an active member of cross functional teams (programming, projects, and partnerships) to meet the overarching goals of the CSC
Assist in creation and marketing efforts for university-wide initiatives such as Hopkins Votes and Hopkins Engage
Participate in university committees that support the work of the Center
Supervise student staff who support marketing, communications, and branding efforts
Serve as an advisor to student organizations, supporting their executive boards in navigating their community service and civic engagement
Provide support for divisional projects and initiatives at the direction of the Student Affairs communications team
Qualifications and Experience:
This staff role requires a bachelor's degree, and a minimum of two years of experience in a communications or marketing role.
The incumbent must:
Demonstrated skills in creating marketing and communications for diverse audiences, preferably in a student services or nonprofit setting
Have a knack for storytelling
Experience managing social media accounts and planning content strategically using data analytics to increase reach and impact
Demonstrated experience writing content for various audiences and platforms
An understanding of community service initiatives
Ability to brand and market various programs on specific timelines, to ensure all audiences are aware of upcoming opportunities
A creative and forward thinking-approach to internal and external communications
Demonstrated experience with WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
A collaborative and team-based approach to solutions
Excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills
Strong logistics and management skills
This position's duties will require routine evening and/or weekend work. The incumbent will be expected to periodically represent the office on various internal and external committees. Duties may also require in-and-out of state travel or other duties as assigned.
