Knowledge of aging-related issues and Village culture
The Greater Brookland Intergenerational Village (GBIV) is proud to join the growing, national movement of approximately 375 Senior Villages that are empowering older adults to age on our own terms. Senior Villages understand that most older adults want to remain in the communities they have enjoyed for years, but many need Villages to stay healthy, safe, fulfilled, and socially connected. Villages are grassroots nonprofits that help neighbors develop the tools and relationships we need to age in place through social, wellness and educational programs that are tailored to members’ needs and interests. They also offer vetted volunteers to assist with tasks like technology support or home-related projects.
GBIV is dedicated to ensuring that all of our neighbors live long, fulfilling lives. We are committed to creating a strong, multigenerational community where diverse groups of neighbors build meaningful relationships with one another and where older adults are seen as a resource, rather than a burden.
We launched in January of 2020 and are excited to continue to grow our membership, create a strong volunteer program, and develop engaging programs and events. Additionally, GBIV is committed to establishing policies and processes to ensure long term organizational health.
