The pharmacy technician's primary job is to recieve and fill prescription request for patients. These prescription request can be from physcians, nurses or directly from patient. Responsibilities include greeting patients and taking prescription requests. The pharmacist then fills the prescription, and the technician often assists by counting pills or measure liquids, then labels the prescription bottles. This involves entering customer information into a PEA system, printing the labels and including appropriate prescription information to ensure the patient understands the dosage, side effects, and potential hazards of the prescription. Administrative responsibilities include answering phones, receiving payment from customers and maintaing inventory.
