The Grants & Development Coordinator works directly with the Development and Communications Director and program team members, as necessary, to complete all grant writing, cultivate foundation relationships, ensure compliance with reporting deadlines, and broaden our network of funders. Each year Little Lights partners with 18-25 foundation partners and manages more than $500,000 annually in grant funds, while also actively seeking to expand our funding network.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Crafting Compelling Grant Proposals
Writing grant proposals with persuasion, research, and a meticulous attention to detail and adherence to rubrics, as given.
Collaborating with other team members to compile financial data, budgets, and reports as needed for applications.
Creating and maintaining a yearly grants calendar to ensure all deadlines are met with timeliness.
Owning the entire grant writing process, including proactively seeking out information needed from other team members in order to complete proposals, planning ahead to allow team members enough time to gather information, and crafting proposals requiring primarily high-level review rather than extensive edits.
Cultivating Relationships of Good Standing with Funders
Maintaining proactive, engaged, and friendly relationships with funders.
Thanking funders when grants have been awarded and periodically expressing appreciation throughout the year.
Competently and professionally fielding requests for information, site visits, etc.
Attending informational or training workshops offered by funders.
Ensuring Compliance with Reporting and Programmatic Requirements
Overseeing all aspects of grant compliance and reporting, including but not limited to collaborating on financial reports, tracking the status of staff background checks, administering or creating surveys, tracking programmatic data collection, staying up-to-date on curriculums and strategies used in programs, etc.
Securing New Foundation Funders
Proactively networking and researching in order to identify new funding opportunities to expand Little Lights’ revenue streams

About Little Lights Urban Ministries
Little Lights recently celebrated 25 years of ministry in under-resourced communities in Washington, DC, particularly focusing on empowering residents of three public housing communities in Southeast DC: Potomac Gardens, Hopkins, and Benning Terrace. Little Lights is a community Christian organization offering academic tutoring, one-to-one mentoring, and spiritual programs for kids, workforce development programs for teens and adults, and family strengthening and spiritual programs for adults and families. Little Lights also provides classes on anti-racism and racial reconciliation.
