The pharmacy technician's primary job is to receive and fill prescription requests for patients. These prescription requests can come from physicians, nurses or directly from the patient. Responsibilities include greeting customers and taking prescription requests. The pharmacist then fills the prescription, and the pharmacy technician often assists by counting pills or measure liquids, then labels the prescription bottles. This involves entering customer information into a PEA systems, printing the labels and including appropriate prescription information to ensure the customer understands the dosage, side effects and potential hazards of the prescription. Administrative responsibilities include answering phones, receiving payment from customers and maintaining inventory.
