Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for providing visionary leadership and exceptional management of our Development and Membership functions. Our ideal candidate possesses tremendous communication, leadership and management skills, with proven success in nonprofit fundraising, membership and revenue generation at a global level. RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
Direct innovative, high-level fundraising efforts that enable the organization to raise complex, principal and major gifts among new and existing prospects and donors.
Provide exceptional management and leadership expertise based on extensive experience leading fundraising efforts and managing teams within a matrix organization.
Oversee the cycle of planning for, launching and delivering on the Conservancy’s campaigns.
Lead and manage the Development department and provide direction for the network of philanthropy professionals across the organization, including professional development.
Work with Division and Regional Leadership Teams to establish clear processes, procedures and Comprehensive Performance Indicators for all fundraisers and Business Units.
Set and meet fundraising objectives for the entire organization, Development Function and key staff, evaluating results and developing corrective strategies as needed.
Deepen and manage relationships with volunteer leaders, including members of the Board of Directors, and work closely with senior leadership to meet fundraising objectives.
Provide ongoing and high-level counsel to Conservancy leadership on elevating fundraising at the Conservancy.
Develop and administer departmental budget.
Serve as an active member of the Executive Council.

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field. Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
At least 10 years direct experience in fundraising, including at a senior level.
Experience leading, supervising and managing a large multi-disciplinary team, including the ability to motivate, lead, set objectives and manage performance.
Experience working with current and evolving trends in major gift giving, complex gifts, solicitation, capital campaigns and Membership fundraising.
Experience in cultivating and maintaining long term relationships with major donors, foundations and corporations and asking for and closing major and complex gifts.
Experience communicating and presenting to varied audiences.
Must be able to travel extensively both within the US and globally.
