This position is located in the Health Resources and Services Administration, Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Division of Services for Children with Special Needs. The duty location is Rockville, MD.
As the Branch Chief for the Genetic Services Branch, you are responsible for the broad range of supervisory responsibilities over the professional and technical staff assigned to GSB.
Your major duties include:
Providing professional and clinical leadership on the principles, practices, new approaches, resources, and latest developments related to the fields of public health genomic and genomic medicine.
Planning, developing, monitoring, implementing, and evaluating national, family-centered programs related to genetics and genomics.
Coordinating and overseeing Branch responsibilities for the legislation governing the Branch, including Heritable Disorders, Hemophilia, Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Disease and Newborn Screening
Basic Requirements for all Public Health Program Specialist Series, 0685 positions require that you demonstrate specialized experience in each of the following five competencies:
1. Knowledge of organizational, operational, and programmatic concepts and practices applied by public, private, or nonprofit agencies and organizations engaged in public health or other health-related activities.
2. Knowledge of the methods, processes, and techniques used to develop and deliver public health or health-related programs in State and local settings.
3. Knowledge of a specialized public health program.
4. Knowledge of, and skill in, the application of administrative or analytical methods and techniques necessary for working within the framework of a public health or related organization and carrying out specific program functions.
Skill in oral and written communications, gathering and conveying information, making oral presentations, and preparing reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
In order to qualify for this position at the GS-15 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-14 level in the federal service.
