Development Specialist |Grant Writer - District of Columbia College Access Program
The District of Columbia College Access Program (DC-CAP) is a privately funded nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the number of Washington, DC, public and public charter high school students who enter and graduate from college.
Through our unique partnership with the public and public charter schools systems, DC-CAP’s advisors are embedded in schools to provide direct comprehensive college and financial aid counseling to DC high schools students and their parents. After high school graduation, DC-CAP students are served by College Retention Advisors for up to six years. They work with our college students and their institutions to provide the academic, financial and psychological support necessary to help ensure they are able to earn their degrees.
DC-CAP is seeking a Development Specialist –Grant Writer who is primarily responsible for developing proposal, applications and inquiries, persuasively communicating DC-CAP’s mission, services and programs to funders. Reporting to the President & CEO, the Development Specialist will assemble and submit grant requests, establish and maintain relationships with foundations and corporate contacts, and conduct prospect research.
Developing & writing grant proposals to foundations and corporations;
Communicating DC-CAP’s mission, services, and programs to potential funders persuasively;
Researching, identifying an qualifying funding opportunities from corporate and foundation sources
Managing, assembling & submitting grant requests, including letters of support, proposals, presentations and reporting;
Editing and proofreading grant proposals and other communications to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax; and to improve clarity and readability;
Prioritizing and managing multiple projects in a timely manner throughout the entire grants process;
Working collaboratively and communicating effectively with leadership (managers and directors) to produce proposal content;
Managing reports, acknowledgements for charitable gifts, appeal letters, etc.; and
Other duties as assigned, related to the DC-CAP Development Department.
