Martha’s Table seeks a talented and detail-oriented Development Manager, Data & Research to join its dynamic Development & Communications team at an exciting time in its history. In 2020, Martha’s Table will celebrate its 40-year anniversary and develop its next strategic plan, laying the groundwork for another 40 years of meaningful impact. The primary focus of this role is the management of the Development Team’s CRM system; major donor prospect research, identification, and qualification; and leading reporting and evaluation efforts for the department to ensure we reach ambitious financial goals. The Development Manager, Data & Research serves as an integral member of the Development & Communications Team, contributing ideas, strategy, and operational support to advance overall fundraising goals.
Responsible for the overall integrity of the Development CRM system, Raiser’s Edge, containing approximately 70,000 constituent records.
Proactively establishes and refines standard data entry protocol following database management best practices. Trains and supports team members in the proper use of the database to ensure universal adoption of policies and procedures.
Regularly audits database to evaluate data integrity. Coordinates efforts to clean and update data, including but not limited to identifying and merging duplicate records; correcting constituent contact, demographic, biographic, and philanthropic information; uploading gift agreements, proposals, reports, and other gift documentation; and more.
Collaborates with relationship managers on the Development Team to establish and refine systems that facilitate effective portfolio management, including but not limited to the design of queries and reports that track donors’ giving history, philanthropic interests, portfolio membership, recent and upcoming moves, and phase within the giving cycle.
Pulls complex, segmented lists of up to 20,000 constituents for direct mail and digital appeals and recognition efforts.
On a monthly basis, uploads volunteer constituent data to Development CRM system.
Stays abreast of data integrity best practice processes, methods, and technology tools.
Gift Processing & Financial Reconciliation:
Responsible for ensuring accurate and efficient processing and acknowledgment of all financial and in-kind gifts to Martha’s Table.
Refines and strengthens existing gift processing and acknowledgment procedures to maximize efficiency and accuracy and to minimize cost and human error.
Serves as main point of contact for direct mail processing firm, DMP. Trains DMP employees in proper gift entry protocol. Regularly audits gift entry to ensure data integrity.
On a weekly basis, posts gifts from Raiser’s Edge to general accounting ledger. On a monthly basis, collaborates with Finance Team to reconcile any discrepancies in gift data.
On a monthly basis, uploads in-kind gift information to Development CRM system.
Reporting & Evaluation:
Builds queries and reports in CRM system that reflect progress towards key performance indicators and inform strategy and day-to-day activities of the Development Team. This includes but is not limited to LYBUNT and SYBUNT lists; appeal- and category-specific revenue reports; reports on non-financial KPIs, such as total number of donors, renewed donors, upgraded donors, lapsed donors, expired donors, as well as retention rates, average gift size, and cost-per-dollar raised; and lists of upcoming and overdue gift installment payments.
On a monthly basis, proactively assembles “dashboard” for individual team members that illustrate progress towards personal targets. Meets with team members to help with the interpretation of data.
On a monthly basis, proactively assembles “dashboard” for Development Department that illustrates team-wide progress towards departmental targets. Facilitates interpretation of data and shares key findings at a team-wide meeting.
Prospect Research & Qualification:
In close partnership with relationship managers on Development Team, designs and implements prospect identification strategies for potential individual and institutional donors with capacity for $10,000 level gifts and above. Leverages online sources, industry publications, and wealth screening tools to identify prospective donors.
On a bi-annual basis, leads portfolio assignment meetings to prioritize top-tier prospects and ensure they are assigned to appropriate relationship manager on Development Team.
As needed, develops written briefs that provide essential biographic, philanthropic, and engagement history details on current and prospective individual and institutional donors at the $10,000 level and above.
In close partnership with relationship managers on Development Team, designs and implements prospect qualification strategies that accurately rate potential donors based on linkage, ability, interest and other validated indicators of propensity to give.
Develop and implement a system for tracking research and wealth screening attributes in Raise’s Edge of potential individual and institutional donors with capacity for $10,000 level gifts and above.
Applies a person-centered approach to the supervision of the Development Assistant, supporting him/her in reaching their annual performance and developmental goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Exceptional attention-to-detail, with the ability to manage large amounts of information and complex systems with accuracy and efficiency.
Ability to make sense of and coach others through the adoption of complex systems and the interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data sets.
Professional knowledge of best practices for managing complex CRM systems, such as Raiser’s Edge. Knowledge of and/or ability to leverage common prospect research resources and wealth screening tools.

Bachelor’s degree and/or three+ years of professional experience in a nonprofit environment
