Responsible for the Management of Tahirih’s Non-Government Grants Processes
Leads the organization-wide grants management process, ensuring it is effectively communicated and executed, and recommending changes to meet evolving organizational needs
Responsible for the grants team’s management of a comprehensive and accurate organizational grant calendar of proposal and report deliverables
Responsible for the grants team’s creation of project plans/timelines that coordinate receipt of program narratives, metrics and financial data from designated staff in support of timely proposal submissions and grant reports.
Responsible for ensuring that staff are kept abreast of upcoming deadlines through regular monthly meetings with Local and National Office Executives and ad hoc meetings and emails as needed
Responsible for the grants team’s maintenance of the grants pipeline, including accurate data on the amount of grants that have been or will be submitted to each funder.
Owns and leads the creation and delivery of training for staff across the organization who are involved in the grants management process.
Co-Own the Management of Tahirih’s Grant Portfolio with Local Office Executives
Co-own with Local Office Executives:
The development and execution of funder strategies tailored to each local market
The quality of and timely submission of compelling grant reports and proposals to current and prospective funders
Trouble-shooting and resolution of issues related to funder strategy, scope of asks and budget, relevant metrics, coordination of asks across offices, solicitation timing and other issues
Responsible for cultivating select high value funders and drafting reports or proposals for them as needed
Responsible for reviewing grants team drafts of proposals and reports as needed
Responsible for monitoring the grants pipeline, ensuring adequate progress towards goals, and anticipating and communicating potential gaps to meeting goals
Responsible for providing advice to Local Office Executives on the reasonability of grants goals that have been submitted [Local Office Executives are responsible for setting and meeting grants revenue goals]
Responsible for collaborating with finance, communications and program staff to ensure consistency of key messages shared in proposals, report narrative and metrics
Provides input to finance staff on the accuracy of donation coding, and on the creation of non-restricted and restricted grant budgets for proposal and reporting purposes
Provides input and support to Local Office Staff as they prepare for grantor site visits, monitoring visits, or grant program audits; attend site visits for select high value funders as needed, primarily national funders
Responsible for the quality of grants team research into new opportunities identified by program staff, time permitting
Responsible for the supervision of the grants team, including goal setting and evaluation; provide coaching and mentoring to grow staff skills and effectiveness
Participates in departmental and organizational retreats, assists in establishment of goals and objectives, and monitors progress against established grants goals
Assists with other fundraising projects as requested
A bachelor’s degree
Five to seven years track record of success in persuasive writing, preferably on proposals and reports for institutional donors
Demonstrates competency and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
Strong people manager with 2+ years of supervisory experience, including an ability to effectively set team goals and outcomes and grow staff talent
Outstanding attention to detail with respect to project management and oversight of timely, high quality deliverables
Ability to manage competing deadlines, often with tight turnarounds
Successful experience in developing cultivation and solicitation strategies for foundation donors
Knowledge of or ability to learn general budgeting principles relevant to grants management
Self-starter and problem-solver able to interact with a diverse group of funders
Highly energetic and strategic-thinking professional with a track record of supporting and building donor relationships
Excellent technical writing and editing skills with a strong ability to mentor staff on how to tailor deliverables to a specific audience based on their interest and priorities.
Collaborative leader with an ability to mobilize the team to pursue new, high value opportunities
Interest in and knowledge of women’s rights and/or human rights or related social justice issues
Experience partnering and communicating detailed needs with a variety of functions and departments to develop and implement strategic approaches to report and proposal requirements
