The National Building Museum, America’s leading cultural institution dedicated to advancing the quality of the built environment, seeks a hands-on Controller. Located in Washington, D.C., the Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with an annual operating budget of eight million dollars.
This position is responsible for overseeing the Museum’s day-to-day finance and accounting activities and ensuring that all activities are managed in compliance with regulations, internal policies and procedures and financial strategy and that they meet the requirements of Museum funders and sponsors. This role also ensures that the organization operates within budget and manages the allocation of shared budget items among the Museum’s departments and programs in conjunction with the organizational operating budget.
The Controller manages financial controls, preparation for the annual audit and 990/990T, monthly reconciliations including investments, bank accounts and numerous balance sheet accounts, monthly financial reporting internally and to the Finance and Executive Committee and works closely with all departments in providing financial analysis and support. The Controller will supervise an Accounting Manager and an Accounting/Payroll Specialist. The position reports directly to the Senior Vice President, who also serves as the Chief Operating Officer.
