Located in the thriving and rapidly changing North Bethesda District in Montgomery County, AMP is the nexus of live entertainment in the growing neighborhood of Pike & Rose. Food and drink menus change seasonally, and music changes nightly, featuring an eclectic mix of genres in an upscale casual atmosphere that will entice neighbors from across the street and music fans from across the DMV. Located on Metro’s red line at the White Flint stop, AMP is easily accessible by car or public transit.
The live music and dining venue has a capacity of 220 for a performance and features a 2,400 square foot concert space and 1,100 square foot lounge. AMP is also available for corporate meetings, weddings, and other private events.
AMP is run by Strathmore, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Profits from AMP support Strathmore’s mission to presents and produce exemplary arts programs for diverse audiences, creates dynamic arts education experiences, and nurtures creative ideas and conversations that advance the future of the arts.
Position Summary Statement: The AMP General Manager is responsible for the cost-effective and successful operation of AMP, including providing excellent customer service to all patrons, liaising with food provider and landlord, coordinating programming, overseeing the maintenance of the facility and its equipment, and assisting the rentals team in coordination and execution of tours and events. The AMP General Manager is the public-facing, nightly presence at this neighborhood gathering place for great music and innovative drinks and bites!
FOH Responsibilities include:
Act as primary custodian of the Strathmore brand experience at AMP – ensure cooperation, generate new ideas and solutions, uphold customer service standards, and manage the team with clear direction and support.
Oversee the day to day operations of the club, ensuring that various functions work together smoothly, including coordinating activities between Strathmore, Federal Realty (landlord) and Ridgewells Catering (food provider)
Act as on-site manager for all Strathmore presented programs at AMP.
Oversee the execution of the FOH aspects of all events; coordinate part-time staffing, manage customer relations, and oversee event breakdown.
Develop and track budgets and timelines, including monthly and quarterly reports to Strathmore staff and partners.
Advance and coordinate all in-house Strathmore events including but not limited to Educational programs, Rehearsals, and donor events.
Handle inquiries and requests pertaining to events at AMP
Coordinate with Strathmore’s marketing and communications team on AMP marketing and promotion.
Hire and train Event Assistants, Bouncers, and Volunteers.
Embrace other FOH duties as assigned.
Facilities Management Duties Include:
Coordinating monthly and quarterly contract repairs and deal with emergency maintenance needs, when they occur.
Schedule cleanings and building services.
Liaise with property owner (Federal Realty Investment Trust) and attend monthly merchant meetings.
Arrange for parking passes, added security, and schedule freight elevator access based on needs of food provider, vendors, and performers.
Embrace other facilities management duties as assigned.
Programming Coordination Duties Include:
Manage calendar of events for AMP through Event Booking software
Coordinate contractual programmers for AMP, maintaining progress on bookings, hosting regular meetings with them, and writing/authorizing offers with the approval of the VP of Programming
Research and book new product for AMP, such as author talks, chef demos, documentaries, podcasts, etc.
Embrace other program coordination duties as assigned.
Rentals Management Include:
Advance and coordinate non-Strathmore presented, ticketed events.
Act as Event Manager assign House Manager for non-Strathmore presented, ticketed events.
Assist Rentals team in coordination and execution of tours and open-houses.
Hold office hours on site at Pike & Rose (on a schedule to be determined) to be available for occasional rental customer visits.
Embrace other rentals duties as assigned.
This position must operate within the Strathmore-approved budget. The AMP General Manager reports to the President and CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a bachelor’s degree and five years of experience successfully managing similar projects. Venue management experience is required. Restaurant/Bar management experience is preferred. Maryland TIPS certification will be required if hired. Candidates must feel comfortable interfacing with the various stakeholders that will visit AMP, including corporations, high level donors, VIPs, artists, and the public. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership, planning, project management, and organizational abilities. Candidates should be able to work independently, multi-task, solve problems, and collaborate with other staff at all levels. Candidates should show initiative and creativity. Candidates must demonstrate excellent skills in verbal and written communication. Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Word/Excel). Candidates must be willing and able to work weekends and evenings as required by the events schedule and must have a driver’s license.
Work Hours Thursday-Sunday late afternoon/evenings; Flexible daytime hours for administrative work.
Status and Salary: This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Salary is commensurate with experience and ranges $55,000 - $65,000/year. This position includes an excellent benefits package.
